The AI Lender Citation Report
When a business owner asks ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity a funding question, which websites does the answer actually cite? Nobody publishes that data, so we started measuring it. Every week our probe system asks AI answer engines the real questions borrowers ask - with search grounding on, so citations are the engine's own - and records exactly who gets cited, at what position.

The baseline finding
Our first grounded probe (August 2026) asked Gemini"Is Closer Capital legit?" The answer drew on9+ cited sources, led by the lender's own site (closercap.com), review platforms (Trustpilot), interview/press pages, and evenconsumerfinance.gov. The pattern that matters for anyone watching AI search: for lender-trust questions, engines assemble a panel of the company's own site, third-party review sources, and government references - and third-party review pages routinely make the citation list even when they are small sites. Answer-first pages with concrete numbers are what get quoted.

Methodology
Probes run on a daily cadence against AI answer engines with retrieval/grounding enabled (currently Google-grounded Gemini; additional engines are added as coverage expands). Each probe records the full answer, every cited URL, and the position of each citation. Weekly snapshots are archived and this page rebuilds from the full archive, so the numbers above are reproducible, not retrospective estimates. Questions are fixed between snapshots; additions are noted.
Disclosure: this report is published by Closer Capital Reviews, a Closer Capital affiliate review site that is itself one of the tracked citation candidates. The tracked panel and raw citation lists are reported as measured, including weeks where this site is not cited.
